Roosevelt Island apartments provide its residents with a unique living situation where luxury and amenities can be enjoyed at reasonable prices. Roosevelt Island is the narrow island directly east of Midtown East and the Upper East Side, accessible by tram, subway and a bridge from Queens. It is filled with high rise apartment buildings, parks and sports fields. The population is overwhelmingly dominated by young professionals and families looking to get cheaper housing options just outside of Manhattan. The area offers residents a quieter and more suburban feel compared with its city counterpart across the river.
Many of the living options available are modern, doorman buildings with great views of the Manhattan skyline. Most people are unaware of how easy and regular transportation is to Manhattan, with trams and subways running every fifteen minutes or less, even during off-peak times. On Roosevelt Island, the Red Bus offers regular shuttle service, taking inhabitants up and down the island and to the subway and tram stations.
Restaurants and bars on the Island leave much to be desired, but some quality establishments do exist. In addition, it is relatively easy to make a quick trip into Manhattan to experience its wide selection. For grocery shopping, there is a Gristedes conveniently located at the northern part of the Island and a Costco right over the Roosevelt Island Bridge in Astoria.
